The consequences of a sex offense conviction can be severe.  In addition to potential incarceration, certain sex offenders convicted in Massachusetts are subjected to GPS monitoring during probation.  Some are subjected to lifetime community parole.  See MGLA c. 6 § 178H.  Most of those convicted of a sex crime are required to register as a sex offender for the next twenty years.
